Law of Perdition
Ultraviolet began airing on Channel 4 in the UK in September 1998. Only 6 episodes were made, but the series had a lot of people talking at the time. It was the brain child of Joe Ahearne, who also created the gritty lawyer-soap 'This Life' (also starred Jack Davenport). Stylish, dark and often humourous, Ultraviolet delivered a blend of vampire myth with a modern slant. It is notable that the programme never once mentions the word 'Vampire', instead referring to the antagonists as 'leeches' or a 'code five infection'. Ultraviolet charted the exploits of an investigative government unit, armed with the latest weaponry, whose aim is to track down and exterminate Code 5 infected subjects whilst attempting to work out their agenda. A policeman, Michael Colefield, is reluctantly drawn into the group after a confrontation with his 'turned' former best friend, Jack, when Michael, defending himself after being bitten, is forced to 'kill' Jack.
Lights Out was originally a radio broadcast. The tolling of the bell in the background, and the announcer saying "It - is - Later - Than - You - Think" in time with the bell, acted as the introduction to Lights Out. The program was first heard on New Year's Day, 1934, on WENR (Chicago). The original writer was Wyllis Cooper, but Arch Oboler is probably better known as a writer / director / actor involved with the series. It was later brought to T.V. Four episodes were broadcast on WNBT-TV in New York during 1946 before going network in 1949-1952. There was also a revival special, January 15th, 1972 called "The Widows Weep" which was a 60 minute feature, in color.

Anthology series focusing on the supernatural. Winston Essex opened each episode by taking the audience into his spooky old mansion and introducing the plot, which could range from a vampire preying on college students to a ghost haunting a house to an old man using voodoo against his own family. On January 5, 1973, the series changed its title to "Circle of Fear", the Essex character was no longer part of the show, and the stories didn't always feature supernatural themes
